Yakutsk Launches Massive Winter Cleaning Campaign
Yakutsk city is gearing up for a comprehensive sanitation cleaning campaign, set to commence on February 1, 2024, and continue until May 1, 2024. This three-month initiative, focusing primarily on snow removal and transportation, will involve eight contracting organizations for the first time, each bringing their own equipment and workforce to tackle the task.
The city has significantly increased funding for snow removal and transportation this year. The cleaning will extend to streets, public spaces, courtyards, sidewalks, and thawing water drainage channels. Notably, the organizations 'Yakutsk City Utilities' and local volunteer groups will participate in sidewalk cleaning for the first time, covering areas in various districts of Yakutsk.
Cooperation with managing companies will be bolstered to ensure effective snow removal from courtyards and adjacent territories. Enterprises, organizations, and institutions are reminded to organize sanitation and repair work on the lands they oversee. Residents of the individual housing fund will also be reminded to remove snow from their courtyards according to the rules. Last year, Yakutsk removed over 800 thousand cubic meters of snow due to record snowfalls, significantly higher than the average of 300-400 thousand cubic meters in the previous decade.
The city's sanitation cleaning campaign will also include clearing ice, cleaning public sanitation points, and removing frozen waste. Administrative responsibility may be considered for unauthorized snow storage on roadways. With eight contracting organizations involved and increased funding, Yakutsk aims to maintain cleanliness and safety throughout the city during the winter season.
