Yakutia Rises in Quality of Life Ranking, Setting Ambitious Poverty Reduction Goals

Yakutia, a republic in Russia, has shown progress in its quality of life ranking, while some regions remain outsiders. The 2023 ranking placed Yakutia 70th out of 85 regions and cities, improving from its 71st position in 2022. Meanwhile, the Jewish Autonomous Region, the Republic of Ingushetia, and the Republic of Tuva were among the lowest ranked.

Yakutia's Head, Aisen Nikolaev, has set a clear goal: to halve the poverty level in the republic over the next five years. This commitment follows the republic's improvement in the quality of life ranking, indicating a focus on social well-being. In contrast, the Tyva Republic remained at the bottom, ranking 71st in both the 2022 and 2023 rankings.

The ranking, compiled by RIA Novosti experts using data from various ministries and open sources, placed Moscow and St. Petersburg in the top ten. However, a separate ranking by the Fund for Civil Society Development offered a slightly better outlook for Yakutia's social well-being. The top 35 regions were led by Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

Yakutia's authorities, led by Chairman Кирилл Бычков, have prioritized fighting poverty. The republic's progress in the quality of life ranking suggests a commitment to improving social conditions. Meanwhile, some regions, like the Tyva Republic, continue to face challenges in enhancing their quality of life.
