Wuppertal's 'Tal Heroes' Launches to Gamify Composting and Recycling
Wuppertal's 'Tal Heroes' initiative launches on September 15, 2025, focusing on six neighborhoods. The project aims to improve composting and recycling through gamification and education. Participants can earn the title of 'Tal Hero' and win prizes.
The initiative, led by the Competence Center Smart City, involves a waste management vehicle equipped with modern sensors. This vehicle will check compost bins in the test neighborhoods and provide feedback on compost quality. Participants must be 18 years or older, or part of a family with one adult per household, and have a smartphone or tablet with internet access. A compost bin is required and can be obtained upon request from the Waste Management Association.
The Tal Heroes app provides information about composting basics and recycling, encouraging sustainable waste separation. Residents can register and participate in the initiative via the smart.wuppertal.de website and the Tal Heroes app. Active participation for eight weeks can earn the title of 'Tal Hero' and win prizes such as zoo or Wuppertal SV vouchers.
