Work-free days come to an end, work-life resumes: Portuguese tourists bid farewell to the Algarve, preparing to resume their jobs.

As August draws to a close, the bustling atmosphere of Portugal's popular tourist destinations begins to shift. The predominant arrival of tourists is in the fall season, with September and October seeing the highest number of visitors. This year, many tourists, mostly foreigners, are about to arrive, eager to experience the warm climate and vibrant culture that Portugal offers.

The Algarve Hotel and Tourism Enterprises Association predicts that hotel occupancy in September and October will stay near 90%. This high demand for accommodation is a testament to the appeal of Portugal during the autumn months. The association also reports that prices in September and October are 25% cheaper than in August, making it an attractive time for tourists to visit.

For families like the ones heading home to Gondomar and Santa Maria da Feira, packing bags for travel is likened to an intensive course in storage or an automated version of the classic game Tetris. The packing process is a challenge of maximizing every little space to ensure nothing is left behind.

The majority of foreign tourists visiting Portugal in September and October are Germans, who prefer the Algarve region, followed by Lisbon and Madeira. These regions are popular for their beaches, cultural sites, and warm climate during the autumn months. The current temperature in Portugal is around 21 degrees, but the tourists are expected to enjoy temperatures nearly 26 degrees, according to previous experiences.

August 31st marks a significant day for these families as they prepare for their journey. As the bags are packed and the final preparations are made, Portugal eagerly awaits the arrival of its autumn tourists.
