Discover Coburg's Gourmet Heritage with the 'Coburg Culinary' Tour

Nestled in Upper Franconia, Germany, the historic city of Coburg is home to a high density of gourmet manufacturers, many of which have maintained their independence and are still run by the founders' descendants. The city offers a unique opportunity to explore these traditional businesses through the 'Coburg Culinary' tour.

This guided tour takes participants on a journey through the city's rich culinary history, with stops at various gourmet manufacturers. The tour is suitable for anyone wanting to discover Coburg's cityscape in the evening or after work, as the 'Evening Tour' takes place every Tuesday at 5:30 PM, and on Saturdays at 11:30 AM until the end of October.

The meeting point for both tours is in front of the Tourist Information at Herrngasse 4. The 'Evening Tour' and the 'Coburg Culinary' tour are barrier-free, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the experience.

During the tour, visitors will learn about the past and present of these special businesses, as well as partake in various tastings. The cost for the 'Evening Tour' is 8 euros per person, while the price for the 'Coburg Culinary' tour is 15 euros per adult and 8 euros per person under 18, including tastings.

In the early 20th century, around 1914, there were approximately 15 court suppliers in Spitalgasse alone in Coburg. Some of these court suppliers still exist today, and some of the current descendants of the historical tanneries in Coburg that can be visited through the local tourist information are the companies Gerberei Erhardt and Gerberei Moll.

Registration for both tours is required at least three days in advance. For the 'Coburg Culinary' tour, you can register by email at [email protected] or by phone at +49 9561 89-8000. For the 'Evening Tour', registration is required by 12 PM on the respective day. A maximum of 20 guests can participate per tour.

So, if you're a food enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates history, the 'Coburg Culinary' tour offers a delicious and informative way to explore this charming German city. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to taste the flavours of Coburg's past and present.
