Vietnam ranks among Asia's top three frequently visited tourist spots
Vietnam Rises as a Top Destination for Returning International Tourists
Vietnam has secured its position as one of the most popular destinations for returning international tourists, according to Agoda's 2025 Return Visitor Rank. The Southeast Asian country placed third, following Japan and Thailand, with approximately 1.56 million international tourists visiting in July 2025 alone.
This growth in popularity can be attributed to Vietnam's robust post-pandemic tourism recovery. Favorable visa policies, expanded direct flight connections, intensive tourism marketing strategies, and a diverse appeal across multiple regions have all contributed to Vietnam's rise.
Key factors in this resurgence include a strong tourism rebound, surpassing pre-COVID levels, with international arrivals surging from 3.4 million in 2022 to 17.5 million in 2024. This rapid increase underscores the resilience and strong demand for Vietnam as a travel destination.
Simplified visa regulations and new direct flights from major markets such as India, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and more have greatly improved accessibility. National campaigns, alliances with airlines, and vibrant public events have amplified Vietnam’s profile internationally.
Popular Vietnamese cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hue, and Hoi An have seen heavy tourist activity, attracting repeat visitors due to their cultural richness and historical significance. The central coastal city of Da Nang, in particular, has made its debut in the top 10 most revisited cities in Asia.
The three beach paradises in Vietnam - Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc - captivate visitors with white sand, clear waters, and sun-soaked resorts. The five most revisited destinations in Vietnam are Da Nang, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Phu Quoc.
Agoda's ranking includes Bangkok, Tokyo and Osaka, Seoul, Bali, Taipei, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor Bahru as major Asian destinations attracting frequent returns. Da Nang was titled the most attractive city in Asia by Agoda.
Vietnam has set an ambitious goal of attracting 22-23 million international visitors in 2025, which is a significant increase compared to the previous year's 17.5 million. The total number of foreign arrivals in the first seven months of 2025 in Vietnam is 12.2 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 22.5 per cent.
This achievement marks a major milestone for Vietnam, reflecting both strong return visitor interest and the country's effective strategies in tourism recovery and enhancement. The two major cities in Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi - offer a perfect balance of relaxation and local immersion, with their vibrant urban energy, deep cultural layers, and diverse local cuisine winning hearts with every visit.
- The growing interest in Vietnam as a travel destination has extended to the technological sphere, as many AI-powered finance apps are now offering personalized travel guides for visitors, highlighting the best lifestyle experiences and energy-efficient hotspots throughout the country.
- As more travelers revisit Vietnam for its rich culture and scenic beauty, they are also contributing to the country's drive towards a sustainable future by participating in eco-friendly tours and supporting local businesses that prioritize energy conservation.
- With the rise in tourism and the growing global interest in its unique culture, Vietnam has become an attractive market for foreign investors, particularly in the tech and renewable energy sectors, as the country looks to not only meet the increasing demand for travel and lifestyle amenities but also position itself as a regional leader in sustainable development.
