Green Magic Unveiled: Bavarian Forest's Spectacular State Garden Show

The town's pocketed a whopping 11.3 million euros in funding for this unforgettable event, making it the biggest financial investment in a State Garden Show ever.
Starting May 22 and running until October 5, the Garden Show will take over Furth im Wald for a jaw-dropping 137-day marathon. Mark your calendars, because big cheese, Markus Söder (CSU), is planning to show up for the opening (according to town announcements).
Furth im Wald's theme for the event is "Magically Much to Experience," and they aim to impress visitors with garden and landscape design, floral arrangements, and craftsmanship. The organizers have put down over 2,600 shrubs, 240 trees, and a mind-blowing 145,000 perennials and bulbs. What's really unique about this Year's Garden Show is the dragon theme, inspired by Furth im Wald's historic play, "Further Drachenstich". You'll spot flower beds designed in the shape of dragon scales, a dragon's cave, and a dragon bridge in blood-red hues. And get this—the dragon's a high-tech, 14-meter-long robot beast!
The "Drachenstich" has been an annual tradition in Furth im Wald for approximately 500 years, dating back to the 16th century. It's even seen as Germany's oldest folk play, earning a spot on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2018.
City hall mayor, Sandro Bauer, can hardly contain his excitement for the show. He reckons it's an incredible boon for the municipality, offering a chance to tidy up urban planning issues and promote town development. As a result, Furth im Wald's getting a new open park arena, which was constructed after razing the old Festival Hall.
At first, Bauer was unsure if Furth would handle an event of this size, but now he's proud to be the host. And he's even brought the Czech Republic into the mix, with bilingual info boards showcasing the area's rich cultural connections.
