In the heart of Astana, on the square by the Abai monument, a special performance took place today, honouring the legendary Kazakh poet, philosopher, and reformer. The occasion was marked by around 100 active pensioners, who came together to pay tribute to Abai Kunanbayev on the 180th anniversary of his birth.

Meryurt QAIYRTASQYZY, head of the information promotion department of social services at the Active Longevity Center, expressed her pride in celebrating such a significant figure. "Abai's legacy is a living thread connecting generations," she stated, "a source of wisdom, moral guidance, and love for the Motherland."

Abai Kunanbayev, a central figure in Kazakh culture, profoundly shaped modern Kazakh literature and national identity. His works serve as a bridge between traditional Kazakh oral literature, Islamic-nomadic philosophy, and Western thought, promoting education, moral uplift, and cultural awakening among Kazakhs during a time of societal transition.

As a polymath, Abai was deeply influenced by both Eastern and Western intellectual traditions, including Russian and European literature, which he translated into Kazakh. His significant contributions include founding modern Kazakh written literature, advocating for social progress, and influencing philosophical and theological thinking in Kazakh society.

The performance in Astana was not just a tribute to Abai Kunanbayev, but also a sign of respect for his immortal legacy. Ermek ata, a participant in the performance, shared, "We read Abai's works out of the call of our hearts and find support in his Words of Admonition."

The performance included singing songs written to Abai's words, such as "Közimniŋ qaraşy," "Jelsiz tünde jaryq ai," and "Gylym tappaı maqtanba." These songs, considered classics, have deep meanings and serve as a reminder of Abai's crucial role in shaping national consciousness and spirituality.

The event created an atmosphere of spiritual unity, wisdom, and beauty of Kazakh poetry. It was a gift in memory of Abai Kunanbayev and his significant contributions to Kazakh culture. Such events offer an opportunity to touch Abai's great works again and remember eternal truths.

Abai's legacy continues to inspire and nurture, as stated by Meryurt QAIYRTASQYZY. His works remain educational and moral foundations for the people, reinforcing his role as a national symbol and cultural icon. Commemorations of his life and work, such as international conferences and tributes, foster intercultural dialogue and integration in Central Asia.

In Kazakhstan and beyond, Abai Kunanbayev is widely celebrated as a symbol of Kazakh intellectual heritage. His legacy marks him as the soul and founding father of modern Kazakh literature and thought, a testament to his enduring influence on Kazakh identity, moral philosophy, and cultural pride.
