In Turkey's 2024 export and import landscape, the role of different enterprise sizes and sectors becomes evident. Despite their prevalence, microenterprises' export contribution was modest, while large enterprises dominated imports. Microenterprises, numbering around 179,673, made up three-quarters of all exporting firms. However, they only accounted for 18.8% of total exports. In contrast, small and medium-sized enterprises in the trade sector carried the bulk of exports, reaching 89.0%. Industry-based enterprises, which performed 56.5% of exports, were crucial to Turkey's trade with the EU. They accounted for nearly two-thirds of exports to the region, while trade enterprises contributed just under one-third. The European Union was the most important destination for industrial exports, absorbing 47.5% of shipments. Large enterprises, despite making up only 1.1% of importing firms, conducted the majority of import transactions. They accounted for 80.5% of imports, with industry exports reaching 68.6%. In 2024, large enterprises accounted for 44.4% of Turkey's exports and 58.7% of imports. In 2024, Turkey's export and import scene was dominated by large enterprises, particularly in the industry sector. Despite their prevalence, microenterprises' contribution to exports was relatively low. The European Union was the primary destination for industrial exports.
