Holiday apartments in NRW in high demand ahead of autumn holidays - Tourism in NRW: Strong Demand for Rentals, but Businesses Face Cost Challenges

A recent survey of 571 tourism businesses in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) reveals a mixed picture ahead of the autumn holidays. While vacation rentals are in high demand, many businesses, particularly in Düsseldorf, face challenges due to rising operating costs and cautious spending by guests. Dehoga NRW, the hospitality association, has called for improved political conditions to ease these pressures.

The survey, conducted by Dehoga NRW, found that 37% of tourism businesses are satisfied or very satisfied with expected occupancy. However, 26% are dissatisfied, and 6% are very dissatisfied. Vacation apartment and house operators reported higher satisfaction, with 55% expressing contentment with expected bookings.

Tourism NRW anticipates a further rise in booking figures due to last-minute reservations. Despite this, businesses face significant hurdles. Rising operating costs and guests’ restrained consumption behaviour top the list of challenges. In Düsseldorf, 42% of businesses cited rising costs, and 34% pointed to cautious guest spending as major issues.

Dehoga NRW has urged for improved political framework conditions. They propose a reduced VAT rate on food, more flexible working hours, and eased immigration rules to help businesses navigate these difficulties.

As families look forward to varied and relaxing holidays in NRW, tourism businesses brace for challenges. While demand for vacation rentals remains strong, other accommodations face dissatisfaction. Dehoga NRW's call for improved political conditions aims to support these businesses and ensure a successful autumn holiday season for both visitors and providers.
