Da Nang Celebrates a Millionth Korean Visitor Amidst Growing Tourism Ties

The coastal city of Da Nang, Vietnam, has been celebrating a significant milestone in its tourism industry. In 2025, the city welcomed its one millionth Korean visitor, marking a testament to the success of the tourism industry in Da Nang and the strong ties it has forged with Korea.

The celebration took place during the annual Vietnam-Republic of Korea Culture Exchange Festival, a vibrant event that brought together over 200 businesses and organizations from both countries. The ceremony, organised by Da Nang City's Tourism Promotion Centre, was a celebration of the strong tourism ties between Da Nang and Korea.

The journey of Korean tourism in Da Nang began in 2011 when Asiana Airlines made its first flight to Da Nang International Airport. This was followed by Korean Air and other airlines, leading to the establishment of regular direct air connections between South Korea and Da Nang. Currently, 12 Korean airlines operate flights from multiple cities in South Korea (Busan, Seoul, Daegu, Cheongju) to Da Nang, supporting vibrant tourist flows.

Since 2016, Korea has been the top market for international tourists in Da Nang. In fact, during one week in 2025, the city hosted 150 flights from Korea, with flights also operated by Vietjet Air. Koreans consistently rank as Da Nang’s top international tourists, reinforcing the city’s position as Korea’s favorite beach destination in Vietnam for leisure and cultural tourism.

The city's appeal to Korean tourists is rooted in its natural beauty, historical sites, and suitable climate. The dry season from January to September is the preferred travel period, offering a mix of beaches, cultural heritage, and festivals, making it an attractive destination for Korean visitors looking for leisure, cultural exchange, and business opportunities.

The operation of Korean Air has contributed to Korea being one of the top three key markets in Da Nang. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the sustainable cooperation between Da Nang and the Korean market, underscoring the importance of this market for the tourism industry in Da Nang.

In conclusion, the history of Korean tourism in Da Nang began in 2011 with direct flights, surged since 2016 to become the dominant international tourist group, and currently remains robust, with over one million Korean visitors in just the first seven months of 2025. The strong ties between Da Nang and Korea continue to grow, promising a bright future for tourism cooperation between the two countries.
