In a cultural and educational exchange, two students from Kepler-Gymnasium Pforzheim, Germany, participated in the annual Dictée de St. Maur dictation competition held in the host city of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, France, on November 18, 2023.

This year marked the 31st edition of the competition, which allows French-speaking students from Saint-Maur and two students each from partner cities to participate. The partner city for Pforzheim this year was Saint-Maur-des-Fossés.

The students, who were in the 1st grade of the basic course in French at Kepler-Gymnasium Pforzheim, were accommodated by a French host family during their stay. The competition was conducted in French, and the participants were required to write down the dictated text as error-free as possible.

The Dictée de St. Maur was followed by additional activities in Saint-Maur and nearby Paris. A small sightseeing tour in Paris took place on Sunday, offering the students an opportunity to explore the city. An official reception and a joint dinner were organized by the city of Saint-Maur on Saturday, providing a chance for the students to interact with their French counterparts.

Despite not winning the competition, the students gained a valuable experience, immersing themselves in the French language and culture. They returned home with memories of a successful cultural exchange, ready to continue their language studies with renewed enthusiasm.
