The highest tree in Austria, a giant sequoia (Mammutbaum), stands tall in the district of Gütle, Dornbirn, measuring approximately 57 meters. This evergreen redwood, specifically of the Sequoiadendron giganteum species, has been growing by about 8 centimeters per year since it was imported from Chicago in 1893 by Guntram Hämmler.

Visitors can reach this record-breaking tree by taking bus line 47 from Dornbirn station to the Gütle stop, or by car via the L190 or L204, following the signs for Gütle - Karren cable car.

Interestingly, Dornbirn is also home to another impressive redwood tree, with a circumference of 10.39 meters, making it the fifth thickest tree in Austria. However, it falls short of the tallest, with a height of approximately 38.5 meters.

A trip to see the tallest tree in Austria can be combined with other excursions such as hikes through the Rappenloch and Alploch gorges, visits to the natural monuments Weißtanne and Granitfindling, and a Rolls-Royce automobile museum.

Austria, with a population of 9,197,213 as of January 1, 2025, is a country rich in natural beauty and cultural attractions. The current Chancellor of Austria is Christian Stocker (ÖVP). For more information about Austria, visit www.oesterreich.gv.at.

While Dornbirn may be known for its towering redwoods, it is also the hometown of several famous Austrians, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Alaba, Anna Netrebko, Christoph Waltz, Marcel Hirscher, Andreas Gabalier, and Victoria Swarovski.
