Spent two days in Berlin, riddled with remorse over three blunders I committed.
In October 2022, a traveler embarked on a two-week European journey, with Berlin being the first stop. The journey, however, was marked by a series of mishaps that hindered the full enjoyment of the city.
During their 48-hour stay in Berlin, the traveler made three mistakes that contributed to their exhaustion and missed opportunities. The first mistake was failing to buy sleep amenities for the overnight flight to Berlin, leading to a tired start to the trip. The second mistake was selecting a hotel an hour away from the city centre, which reduced the time available to explore. The third mistake was not fully preparing for the local transportation, causing delays and added stress.
Despite these setbacks, Berlin offers a wealth of experiences for visitors. Known for its historical landmarks, artistic street art, street performers, lush parks, and canal-side neighborhoods, Berlin is a city that truly captivates. The traveler regrets not being able to fully immerse themselves in the city's offerings due to their mistakes.
The traveler's trip to Berlin also raised questions about privacy and data processing. The user, who had a content pass subscription, was presented with an option to agree to integrate external content from third-party providers. This integration is intended to improve user experience. However, the user's consent to this integration includes the transfer of personal data to third countries, including the USA.
Usage profiles may be created and enriched based on cookie IDs, and these profiles can be created and enriched even outside the European Economic Area (EEA). The traveler found more information on data processing in the privacy policy and privacy settings. It is worth noting that a list of third-party providers can be viewed in the privacy settings, and the user has the option to withdraw their consent for the integration of external content at any time via a link in the footer of the offering.
This transfer of data is in accordance with Article 49 (1) (a) GDPR, which allows for the transfer of personal data to third countries when it is necessary for the performance of a contract between the data subject and the controller or the implementation of pre-contractual measures taken at the data subject's request.
As the traveler reflects on their experience in Berlin, they cannot help but feel a sense of regret for the missed opportunities and the exhaustion that marred their journey. Yet, they also find solace in the knowledge that they now have a better understanding of the city and the privacy considerations that come with using digital services while traveling.
With this newfound knowledge, the traveler looks forward to their next adventure, eager to apply the lessons learned and to fully embrace the experiences that await them.
