Solingen Joins AGFS NRW to Enhance Pedestrian and Cyclist Infrastructure

Solingen has joined the Working Group for pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly cities, municipalities, and districts in North Rhine-Westphalia (AGFS NRW), becoming its 118th member. The city received its official certificate from Staatssekretär Viktor Haase and Christine Fuchs, a board member of the AGFS NRW, in 2023.

The AGFS NRW, founded in 1993, now comprises 118 members, including Wuppertal, Langenfeld, and the Rheinisch-Bergische district. Membership offers funding from the state of NRW, knowledge exchange with other municipalities, and free consulting services for local mobility improvement.

Solingen's application was unanimously accepted by a selection committee after assessing the city's pedestrian and cyclist conditions. The committee praised Solingen's systematic work in traffic safety and close administrative cooperation. They also highlighted the Korkenziehertrasse and Veloroute 1 as successful local mobility offerings. However, they recommended improvements in sidewalk width, traffic light control, and signage.

The goal of AGFS NRW is to continuously improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists and promote local mobility. Bad Honnef joined the group in 2023, bringing the total membership to 118.

Solingen's membership in AGFS NRW will provide resources and expertise to further enhance its pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure. The city aims to build on its reputation as a 'hiking paradise' and improve its local mobility offerings.
