Russia's New Road Signs in 2023: Enhancing Safety for EVs and Pedestrians

Russia is set to introduce new road signs next year as part of an updated GOST. The changes aim to enhance road safety and accommodate the growing number of electric vehicles. Among the new signs is a vertical 'Stop-line' sign and a 'Deaf pedestrians' sign, both proposed by State Duma officials.

The 'Deaf pedestrians' sign, table 8.15.1, will alert drivers to pedestrians with hearing limitations. Experiments with this sign have been ongoing for nearly a decade. Pavel Fedyaev, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma's transport committee, announced this change. Meanwhile, Amir Khamitov, deputy chairman of the State Duma's sports committee, proposed introducing special number plates for electric vehicles, which will be green.

To improve vehicle safety and comfort, sign 6.2.1 'Recommended speed when passing an artificial unevenness' will also be introduced. Additionally, a vertical 'Stop-line' sign will be used where a traditional horizontal sign cannot be placed.

Starting next year, Russia will see these new road signs as part of the updated GOST. The 'Deaf pedestrians' sign and special number plates for electric vehicles aim to improve safety and awareness on the roads. The vertical 'Stop-line' sign and sign 6.2.1 are expected to enhance vehicle safety and driving comfort.
