Revival of Ahmadi Market and Cinema illuminates Kuwait's dedication to cultural preservation
In a significant move towards preserving Kuwait's rich cultural heritage, the restoration of the old Ahmadi Market and the historic Ahmadi Cinema has commenced. Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Governor of Ahmadi City, expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah for their unwavering commitment to this cause.
The project aligns with Cabinet Resolution No. (927), issued on July 8, 2025, and will undergo phased work until its full completion. The restoration is being supervised by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL).
NCCAL Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed Al-Jassar described the project as one of the most important cultural restoration initiatives in Kuwait. KOC CEO Ahmad Al-Eidan stated that the company's participation in the restoration project stems from its national and social responsibility towards preserving Kuwaiti heritage and contributing to sustainable development.
The restoration aims to blend traditional authenticity with contemporary development to recreate Ahmadi's historic identity. This endeavour is a testament to Kuwait's commitment to safeguarding its cultural identity and heritage.
UNESCO and ICOMOS experts have already visited Ahmadi as part of its candidacy process for global recognition. The restoration of the Ahmadi Market and Cinema also supports Ahmadi City's nomination for UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Sheikh Hamoud praised the Cabinet decision, particularly the Minister of Information, Culture and State Minister for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Oil Tariq Al-Roumi, and all relevant authorities for their support. He also stressed that the Ahmadi Governorate will continue its coordination role among government agencies to speed up the project's implementation.
Partial operations of some facilities in the Ahmadi Market and Cinema are expected to begin next year, with the entire project expected to extend over four years. For the latest news updates, visitors can follow X website, Instagram, and Facebook.
Despite extensive searches, there are no available search results or credible sources providing information about Batoul Ashour or her role in the restoration of the old Ahmadi market and the historic Ahmadi cinema.
This restoration project is a shining example of Kuwait's dedication to preserving its cultural heritage and is a beacon of hope for the future of Ahmadi City's rich history.
