Recreational initiative for kids and adolescents during their time off
This summer, the city of Gelnhausen invites children and youth to engage in a variety of creative workshops and tours as part of the *Sommermuseum in Gelnhausen* programme, themed "Selbermacher – Kreativität statt Wegwerfgesellschaft." The aim is to provide an exciting and informative cultural experience.
The programme includes a range of workshops and tours, each offering a unique and educational experience.
**Guided Tour: Walk-Through Ear**
Explore the human body in a fun and interactive way with the Walk-Through Ear Guided Tour. This small expedition takes participants through a giant ear canal, eardrum, and middle ear, located on the 1st floor of the Museum. The tour is priced at 3 euros for children aged 3-6, 5 euros for children aged 7-16, and 8 euros for adults (reduced 6 euros). Tickets can be purchased online at www.gelnhausen.de/tickets or at the Tourist Information at Obermarkt 8. The tours will take place on Wednesday, 16th July 2025, and Wednesday, 30th July 2025, from 2-3 pm.
**Workshops**
The workshops cater to various interests and ages.
- **Pottery Workshop: Treasure Chest** On Tuesday, 15th July 2025, and Tuesday, 29th July 2025, from 10-12 am, children aged 8 and above can participate in the Pottery Workshop named "Treasure Chest" at KulturHerberge. Here, they will learn to create works for home, garden, or balcony from clay. The cost is 18 euros per child, with a maximum of 8 participants.
- **Cosmetics Workshop: Naturally Beautiful** On Monday, 14th July 2025, a Cosmetics Workshop named "Naturally Beautiful" will take place from 10-12 am at the Museum. Children will learn to create their own deodorant, after-sun lotion, and lip balm using natural ingredients. The cost is 9 euros per child, with a maximum of 10 participants.
- **Candle Workshop: Summer Light** On Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 10-12 am, the Candle Workshop "Summer Light" will take place at the Museum, Workshop Room. Here, children will handcraft decorative candles and lanterns with elements like seashells and flowers to create a relaxing atmosphere. The cost is 9 euros per child, with a maximum of 10 participants.
- **Paper Workshop: Totally Wired** On Monday, July 28, 2025, from 10-12 am, the Paper Workshop "Totally Wired" will take place at the Museum, Workshop Room. Children will create unique paper lanterns.
- **Jewelry Workshop: Pearls and Adornments** On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 10-12 am, the Jewelry Workshop "Pearls and Adornments" will take place at the Museum, Workshop Room. Children will create unique jewelry pieces using wire, buttons, beads, and thread remnants.
- **Apothecary Workshop: Plant Treasures and Pharmaceutical Secrets** On Wednesday, 16th July 2025, an Apothecary Workshop named "Plant Treasures and Pharmaceutical Secrets" will take place from 10-12 am at the Museum. Here, children will learn to refine soaps, mix salves, and pastes.
- **Schmuckwerkstatt (Jewelry Workshop) “Perlen und Geschmeide”** This workshop, scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, 2025, will see children create unique jewelry pieces using wire, buttons, beads, and thread remnants.
The workshops, except for the Pottery Workshop, take place at the Museum, with the Workshop Room located on the 2nd floor, accessible via an elevator.
The workshops aim to provide children with an exciting and informative cultural experience, and tickets can be purchased online via the official Gelnhausen website or at the Tourist Information office at Obermarkt 8, phone 06051 830-300/-301. The Cultural Inn, where some workshops take place, is located at Schützengraben 5 in Gelnhausen, but it is not barrier-free. The Interactive Museum of the city of Gelnhausen is located at Stadtschreiberei 3 in Gelnhausen and is reachable on foot from the Obermarkt.
