Reckless Driver Causes Serious Incident Near Weilerswist, Faces Charges
In the early hours of Sunday, September 28, 2025, a reckless driver caused a serious incident near Weilerswist-Derkum and Euskirchen-Kessenich. The 21-year-old driver, a resident of Gummersbach, was driving a dark Mercedes at excessive speed and without lights. He was later found to be under the influence of alcohol.
The driver's erratic behavior began in Weilerswist-Lommersum where he nearly collided with an oncoming car. Losing control, he flipped his vehicle onto its roof. The driver and his 18-year-old passenger from Drolshagen both sustained minor injuries.
Police received multiple reports about the driver's reckless maneuvers. After the crash, he threatened a witness with a baton in Weilerswist-Ottenheim. A blood sample confirmed signs of alcohol intoxication. The driver's license and vehicle were confiscated. He now faces several criminal charges, including illegal street racing.
The driver's reckless actions resulted in injuries and property damage. His actions are under investigation, and he will face the consequences of his actions in court.
