Pre-reopening: Modernization of Beethovenhalle, Bonn completed
The long-awaited Beethoven Festival in Bonn is set to commence on Thursday and run until September 27, marking the start of a week-long celebration of music and culture. However, the highlight of the festivities is the much-anticipated reopening of the Beethoven Hall, albeit with a delay from its originally scheduled date in 2019.
After a decade of renovation, the Beethoven Hall will be handed over to the Bonn Conference Center Management at 6:00 AM on August 28, 2025. The renovation project, which was initially estimated to cost 60 million euros, has seen its final cost soar to over 220 million euros.
The Beethoven Orchestra, the resident orchestra of the Beethoven Hall, will present its concert program for the next season today. After the handover, the Beethoven Orchestra plans to play at least one concert every week at the Beethoven Hall.
While the Beethoven Hall is not yet open to the public, visitors can enjoy free concerts in Bonn on Saturday, August 30. From 12 to 6 pm, a program will run on six stages in the city, offering a taste of the musical delights that await at the Beethoven Hall.
The joy that the renovation of the historic Beethoven Hall in Bonn is finally complete is all the greater, despite the significant cost overruns and the loss of much of the original architectural vision. Under the motto "Beethoven Hall: More than just a concert venue," the Beethoven Hall will host cultural events, conferences, and events in the future.
The official and ceremonial opening of the Beethoven Hall is scheduled for December 16, 2025. The Beethoven bust has been returned to its rightful place in the Beethoven Hall, signifying the first step towards the official reopening of this iconic concert hall.
Despite the delays and cost overruns, the Beethoven Festival and the reopening of the Beethoven Hall promise to be a significant cultural event for Bonn and Germany as a whole. The Beethoven Orchestra's new season and the various events dedicated to Beethoven during the festival are sure to delight music lovers and culture enthusiasts alike.
