Piedmont's Giant Benches: A New Panoramic View

Piedmont's hills, known for their vineyards and castles, now boast a unique attraction: giant benches offering panoramic views. The Big Bench Community Project has installed over 180 of these structures, encouraging slow tourism and local engagement.

The initiative began in 2010 when designer Chris Bangle installed the first 'Big Bench' in Clavesana, Cuneo. Since then, these giant benches have popped up in Langhe, Monferrato, Roero, and mountainous areas of Turin. Notable locations include Monforte d'Alba, La Morra, Dogliani, Canelli, and Usseaux. Each bench offers stunning views of vineyards, castles, and hazelnut trees, with opportunities for wine tastings and historic village exploration.

Visitors can collect stamps in their Big Bench passport at affiliated bars and shops nearby, encouraging them to explore multiple locations. The benches are signposted and accessible by foot or car, inviting visitors to slow down, appreciate the landscape, and engage with local communities.
