Missing Man Found Safe in Oymyakonsky District

A man who went missing starting from August 30 in the Oymyakonsky District has been found safe and returned to people on his own on September 5. The man, born in 1962, had been on a field trip and was driving a "Sherp" all-terrain vehicle before his disappearance.

The last contact the search party had with the man was from his known location. On August 30, he called his relatives to say he was heading back, but the call was suddenly cut off. His satellite phone transmitted his location at the same spot for three days starting from August 30.

The man decided to walk to the federal highway when his all-terrain vehicle broke down, and he couldn't fix it. He chose a mountain river as the shortest route to reach the road. After a few days of rafting, he reached the road and met people.

On September 4, a search party consisting of a driver, a medic, and the EODS chief set out in specialized vehicles from the Oymyakonsky District. They stopped for the night approximately 20 km from the last known location of the missing man.

The rescue service of Yakutia commented that the man's self-rescue was due to his preparation for being in nature. He carried warm clothes, a tent, food supplies, and a rubber boat during his journey.

However, independent rafting on mountain rivers also carries risks. The Emergency Operations Center (EODS) in Oymyakonsky District received information about his disappearance only in the evening of September 2. In emergency situations, it's best not to leave the place where you are and wait for help, as it will certainly arrive.

The man in question has not been publicly identified by name. The search party knew the last location from which he had made contact, and their efforts were instrumental in finding him. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being well-prepared and cautious when venturing into the wilderness.
