Schönebeck: The Kunsthof Bad Salzelmen
Located at Badepark 1, Schönebeck (Elbe), the Kunsthof Bad Salzelmen is a museum project that celebrates the region's salt mining tradition. Visitors can explore historic brine works, a Soleturm, a show smelting house, and an exhibition room. Guided tours, including the Soleturm and Gradierwerk, are available for a fee. The museum is open during the summer season from 1:30 PM to 6 PM (Tuesday to Sunday, holidays) and during the winter season from 1:30 PM to 5 PM (Tuesday to Sunday, holidays). However, it is closed on 24 to 26 December and 31 December. The showhouse and garden area at the Kunsthof Bad Salzelmen are wheelchair accessible.
Wernigerode: A Castle and Scenic Views
Wernigerode Castle, nestled in the Harz Mountains, offers a magnificent view of the city and the surrounding landscape from its terrace at 350 meters elevation. Access to the castle is limited, with the castle and narrow-gauge trains stopping outside the castle grounds. The castle is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm (Last admission 30 minutes before closing) from April 7 to November 2, 2025. Visitors can participate in guided tours, climb the terrace gardens, and enjoy the freely accessible views. Construction work is underway to facilitate barrier-free access to the castle.
Schkopau: A Powerful Attraction
The Schkopau Power Plant, located at An der Bober 10006258 Schkopau, offers a unique experience for groups of ten or more. Tours of the power plant can be arranged upon request. The plant, scheduled to be shut down in 2034, offers a view of the Leipzig Monument from its 136-meter-high observation platform during group tours. The site is not barrier-free.
Stolberg: The Josephskreuz
In Stolberg, Germany, stands the Josephskreuz, a 38-meter-high viewing tower resembling the Parisian Eiffel Tower. Visitors can climb the 200 steps to the top for a view of the Brocken, the Inselsberg, the Kyffhäuser, and even the tower spires of the Magdeburg Cathedral. The Josephskreuz is open from 10 AM to 5 PM (Tuesday to Sunday and holidays) during April to October 2025, and from 10 AM to 4 PM (Saturday and Sunday) from 3 November to 7 December 2025. Admission is 3 Euro for adults and 2.50 Euro for reduced tickets. However, the viewing platform is not barrier-free.
