New Initiative Boosts Interethnic Reconciliation in Western Balkans

A new initiative aims to foster interethnic reconciliation in the Western Balkans. Focusing on youth exchange, regional cooperation, and addressing past conflicts, the programme supports peace promotion and conflict prevention. It excludes unrelated activities and targets specific themes.

Themes backed by the initiative include enhanced regional cooperation, interethnic reconciliation, democracy and human rights, rule of law, and empowerment of women and minorities. Enhanced regional cooperation involves supporting the Berlin Process and promoting regional cooperation formats. Democracy and human rights are bolstered by supporting civil society initiatives and combating disinformation. The rule of law is strengthened by professionalising and exchanging between German and Western Balkans actors, and supporting anti-corruption measures. Women and minorities, particularly Roma, are empowered through targeted initiatives to combat anti-Gypsyism and improve their socio-economic status.

The interethnic reconciliation programme in the Western Balkans focuses on key areas to promote peace and stability. By supporting specific themes and excluding unrelated measures, it aims to foster cooperation, human rights, and empowerment, contributing to a more peaceful region.
