Neryungri Father Sentenced to 7 Years for Attempting to Bribe Officer to Free Sons and Recover Phones
A Neryungri resident attempted to bribe a police officer to clear his sons of criminal charges and retrieve their seized mobile phones. The man was later convicted and sentenced to 7 years in prison, suspended for 3 years, with a fine of 1,050,000 rubles.
In spring 2021, the father engaged an intermediary to hand over 350,000 rubles to an officer at the Neryungri District Department of the Interior. His aim was to exempt his sons from criminal liability and recover their confiscated mobile phones. The officer agreed, but the scheme was uncovered and reported to higher authorities.
The man was subsequently charged under part 'b' of article 291, section 4 of the Criminal Code. This law covers bribing a public official through an intermediary for committing clearly illegal actions, in a large amount. The court found him guilty and imposed a severe sentence.
The convicted man's attempt to bribe an officer to free his sons from criminal charges and retrieve their phones resulted in a 7-year prison sentence, suspended for 3 years, and a hefty fine of 1,050,000 rubles. The arrest on his property ensured the execution of the sentence.
