Iconic Tent Roof in Munich's Olympiapark to be Renovated - Munich's Iconic Olympic Park Tent Roof to Undergo Major Renovation Starting 2026
Munich's iconic Olympic Park tent roof, a heritage-protected structure, will undergo a major renovation starting mid-2026. The work, expected to last until the end of 2029, will focus on safety improvements, including the replacement of the entire transparent Plexiglas roofing.
The renovation, managed by the Baureferat of the City of Munich, will begin with the roof area above the Olympic Stadium, which is already scheduled for maintenance closure between October 2023 and summer 2028. The project includes the replacement of the supporting structure, cable net, and Plexiglas, with the entire roof covering around 78,700 square meters.
The City Council has approved funds of 298.4 million euros for the project, with estimated costs of approximately 147 million euros. The work is expected to start in 2027 and be completed by the end of 2032.
The renovation of Munich's Olympic Park tent roof is set to commence in mid-2026, focusing on safety improvements and preserving the heritage structure. The project, managed by the Baureferat, is expected to last until 2029, with the City Council providing the necessary funds.
