Former Partner Stabbed: 10 Years in Prison for 33-Year-Old in Dortmund - Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Manslaughter in Dortmund Stabbing

A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for fatally stabbing his former partner in Dortmund. The court ruled the crime as manslaughter, not murder, despite initial prosecution arguments.

The man, acting out of despair and hopelessness, not revenge or excessive possessiveness, faced a trial where both prosecution and defense agreed on a manslaughter conviction. Initially, the prosecution assumed murder from low motives, but the court did not find evidence to support this.

The defendant's intention to separate from his former partner was the background of the crime. The court, however, did not find this sufficient to classify the act as murder. Instead, they ruled it as manslaughter, which carries a prison sentence ranging from one to fifteen years under German law (§ 212 StGB). The verdict is not final.

The man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter. The court considered his actions not to meet the criteria for murder. The verdict, however, is not yet final, and the case remains under review.
