Girlfriend Stabbed After Breakup: Ten Years in Prison - Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Manslaughter After Stabbing Girlfriend

A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for manslaughter in Dortmund. The man, who had been mentally unstable for years, admitted to stabbing his girlfriend in January 2025. The prosecution initially charged him with murder but later dropped this charge due to insufficient evidence.

The man's psychological instability may have been influenced by various underlying factors. These could include social isolation, financial problems due to substance abuse or unemployment, chronic physical illness, and family conflicts or trauma. Additionally, undiagnosed or early-stage mental disorders, such as schizophrenia, or changes in brain function related to personality disorders could have played a role.

The man's mental state deteriorated further when he lost his job weeks before the crime. He hid this from his girlfriend, adding to his stress and potential psychological distress. The court found him guilty of manslaughter, acknowledging his mental instability at the time of the crime.

After the crime, the man stayed in the apartment for three more days before shooting himself in the forehead with a gas pistol during his arrest in Bremerhaven.

The man's mental instability, likely stemming from various underlying factors, led to a tragic incident. The court's sentence of ten years in prison reflects the gravity of the crime, while also acknowledging the man's psychological state at the time.
