Man Sentenced for Deliberate Kangaroo Killings

An Australian man, Leo Boland, has been sentenced for a disturbing incident involving two kangaroos. The 21-year-old deliberately drove his mother's Holden ute to kill the animals after a night of drinking with friends.

The incident occurred at Running Stream, around 200km northwest of Sydney. Boland's passenger recorded the horrifying scene as Boland recklessly swerved the car at high speed, running over the kangaroos while they attempted to escape. Boland pleaded guilty to two charges: recklessly beating and injuring an animal, and lying to police.

At his sentencing on Thursday, July 2024, Magistrate Daniel Reiss rejected Boland's pleas to escape conviction. He described the case as 'disturbing' and imposed a total fine of AU$1500 (NZ$1703). In addition to the fine, Boland was ordered to serve 200 hours of community service and be of good behaviour for 18 months.

Leo Boland's actions have resulted in a severe punishment, highlighting the seriousness of his crime. The community service and good behaviour bond are intended to help Boland understand the gravity of his actions and prevent similar incidents in the future.
