Malaysian Culinary Expert Dr Shahrim Karim Showcases Diverse Cuisine in Dhaka

Dr Shahrim Karim, a renowned expert on Malaysian heritage and cuisine, recently showcased the country's diverse culinary delights at an event in Dhaka. The professor from Universiti Putra Malaysia captivated attendees with his demonstration of three dishes that highlight the rich cultural influences and unique flavours of Malaysian food.

Dr Karim, an authority on Malaysian food and culture, has dedicated his work to documenting, preserving, and refining the country's culinary heritage. His efforts have significantly elevated the international recognition and appreciation of Malaysian cuisine.

In Dhaka, he prepared Coconut pancake with spicy anchovy sambal, Prawns in spicy pineapple coconut gravy, and Perlis-style mango sticky rice. Each dish showcased the cultural significance and unique flavours of Malaysian cuisine, reflecting diverse influences such as Malay, Chinese, Indian, Baba-Nyonya, and Indigenous traditions. The Portuguese influence was evident in the use of rich sauces and baked goods.

Southern Malaysian cuisine, with its distinct use of spices and textures, is heavily influenced by Singaporean and South Indian cooking. This diversity is a testament to Malaysia's multicultural heritage, which Dr Karim expertly highlights through his culinary demonstrations.
