Van Cleef & Arpels Dance Reflections Festival Returns for a Second Year

The Van Cleef & Arpels Dance Reflections Festival made its triumphant return in 2022, bringing together a captivating blend of traditional and contemporary dance performances, workshops, and artist forums. This year's event took place across some of London's most prestigious cultural venues, including Sadler's Wells, Royal Ballet, Opera, Tate Modern, and Southbank Centre.

The festival's roots in dance can be traced back to the 1920s, when Louis Arpels frequently visited the Paris Opera. This long-standing association with dance culminated in the introduction of the first ballet-themed jewellery from Van Cleef & Arpels in the 1940s. Fast forward to 2018, and the Dance Reflections project was launched by Serge Laurent, Van Cleef & Arpels' Director of Dance and Culture Programs.

The 2022 edition featured a diverse lineup of performances, with revisited classics like Francois Gremaud's Giselle (1841) and major works from George Balanchine's repertoire, such as Serenade (1935), Prodigal Son (1929), and Symphony in C (1947). Contemporary pieces like Shu Lea Cheang and Dondon Hounwn's Hagay Dreaming at the Tate Modern also graced the stage.

The festival's international scope was evident, with artists and companies from various countries collaborating closely. Partners for the 2022 event included contemporary dance companies and institutions such as Rambert, (LA) HORDE, The Ménagerie de Verre, and cultural centers like the Centre Culturel Suisse and the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles. Countries involved in the festival included France, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.

The festival's commitment to fostering international contemporary dance collaborations, supporting premieres and revivals, and partnering with leading dance institutions and artists worldwide was evident in the 2022 edition. For those seeking detailed information about the 2022 edition, such as specific partners, shows, and countries, accessing Van Cleef & Arpels’ official Dance Reflections archives or press releases from that year would be the best approach.
