Locket's Café and Wine Bar Brings European Charm to St James's
Locket's Café and Wine Bar has opened in the former Economist building on Smithson Plaza, St James's, London. The 60-cover café and wine bar, inspired by European cities, is the brainchild of Locket Hambro, great-granddaughter of Olaf Hambro. It serves a unique dining experience in an area known for formal dining.
By day, Locket's offers a range of breakfast pastries, teas, coffees, smoothies, and light lunches. The space is designed with a sixties theme, featuring a scalloped cork front, green-veined marble top, and bespoke globe pendant lights. The café boasts floor-to-ceiling glass windows, pale teal leather banquettes, and monochrome graphic flooring inspired by mid-century designs. The bathrooms, tiled in hand-glazed ceramic tiles inspired by mid-century Swiss artist Sophie Taeuber Arp, add a touch of elegance.
As the sun sets, Locket's transforms into an intimate wine bar, serving small plates focusing on European flavors. Menu highlights include burrata with butternut squash and pumpkin seeds, and creamy polenta with mushrooms and parmesan.
