Local Bars Support Furloughed Workers During Shutdown

During the ongoing government shutdown, two local establishments, Barrel House Cafe and Bar and Union Pub, have stepped up to support their communities by offering special deals and discounts to ease the tension.

Barrel House Cafe and Bar, known for its brewed coffee and craft cocktails, is providing free coffee and a low-price cocktail menu during the shutdown. Their special cocktails include the 'Budget Blackout-tini', a nod to the current situation. Meanwhile, Union Pub, located near the Capitol and popular among government workers, is offering discounted drinks and food. Customers can enjoy hot dogs for $7 and beers for $3, among other specials. Both establishments aim to acknowledge the stress caused by the government shutdown and keep business thriving during this period.

Union Pub's customer base is predominantly government workers, with about 80% of its patrons being affected by the government shutdown. These special offers will continue for as long as the government remains closed.

In response to the government shutdown, Barrel House Cafe and Bar, and Union Pub have implemented shutdown specials to support their communities, particularly furloughed federal workers. These offers are a testament to the establishments' commitment to their customers and the local community.
