Nigeria's aviation sector is on the rise, as the country announces plans to add Brazil and potentially Belize to its list of direct flight destinations. This expansion will see Nigeria's network cover 56 airports in 30 countries, serviced by 38 airlines.

The new route to Brazil, set to be operated by Air Peace, will connect Lagos with São Paulo. In a reciprocal move, LATAM Airlines is expected to commence flights connecting Brazil and Nigeria.

Nigeria's existing network already spans across four continents, including Europe, Asia, and Africa. The services to France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom in Europe are heavily patronised by business travellers and the Nigerian diaspora. Similarly, the services to Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates in Asia are well-utilised.

Within Africa, Nigeria maintains extensive connectivity, with direct flights to Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Togo, and Uganda.

Lagos and Abuja handle the majority of intercontinental traffic, with services managed through five international airports: Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Enugu. Seasonal flights also operate from 14 additional Nigerian airports, depending on passenger demand.

However, political figures like Peter Obi have criticised the government for not fulfilling promises, specifically regarding Nigeria's representation at international events. Meanwhile, the U.S. government has directed Nigerian visa applicants to reveal their social media activity, and Nigeria is expected to have a booth in Tokyo, but its content and effectiveness are yet to be determined.

In response to the arrest of wanted terrorist leaders in Nigeria, the U.S. government has reacted, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in maintaining global security.

As Nigeria continues to expand its air connectivity, the aviation sector promises to play a significant role in boosting the country's economy and fostering ties with other nations.
