World's Largest Legoland Unveiled in Shanghai - Grand Opening Celebrated - Largest Legoland in the world debuts in Shanghai

In the bustling city of Shanghai, a new attraction has emerged as a beacon for families and Lego enthusiasts alike. Legoland Shanghai, China's first Legoland resort, opened its doors on July 5, 2025, offering a unique blend of entertainment and creativity.

Built with an impressive 85 million Lego bricks, Legoland Shanghai is a testament to the enduring appeal of the Danish toy brand. The resort features attractions like Miniland, a replica of famous landmarks from around the world, including China, all crafted meticulously from Lego bricks.

The park, developed in collaboration with Merlin Entertainments and the LEGO Group, may not be the world's largest Legoland, as initially reported, but it certainly holds a special place in the hearts of Lego fans. It boasts a boat tour through a historic Chinese water town made from Lego bricks and a hotel with a unique roof garden. However, the absence of the LEGO Factory Adventure Ride, which was planned but not built, has been noted as a shortcoming.

As domestic tourism in China surges, with a 18.6% increase in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, Legoland Shanghai has experienced an influx of visitors. This growth can be attributed to the Chinese government's subsidies aimed at making domestic tourist travel more affordable.

A 35-year-old man named Shi from Hangzhou recently visited Legoland Shanghai with his wife and child. Shi, who stated that he has rarely traveled outside the country since the COVID-19 pandemic, visits theme parks in China "many times a year."

When it comes to competition, Legoland Shanghai primarily faces off against Shanghai Disneyland, a major theme park offering a wide range of Disney-themed attractions and experiences. While Legoland Shanghai focuses on Lego-themed attractions, Shanghai Disneyland provides a broader range of Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars experiences, appealing to a diverse audience.

However, the absence of a standalone Harry Potter park and the lack of a standalone Peppa Pig park in Shanghai mean that Legoland faces less direct competition from these brands at present. Warner Brothers plans to open a Harry Potter park in Shanghai by 2027, and Toy giant Hasbro announced that work on its massive Peppa Pig-inspired park has entered the "creative design phase."

In the ever-evolving landscape of Shanghai's theme parks, Legoland Shanghai stands as a unique and engaging destination, offering a Lego-centric experience for families and fans of the brand. As it continues to grow and adapt, Legoland Shanghai is poised to become a significant player in the local entertainment market.

A woman from Hangzhou, who had seldom traveled outside the country since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, recently had a tourism experience at Legoland Shanghai, the world's largest Legoland, located in Shanghai, China. The opening of this park, which offers a blend of Lego-themed tourism, entertainment, and creativity, has resulted in an increased interest in lifestyle and travel within China.
