Head to Krasnodar Krai for a Sun-Soaked May Getaway!
Krasnodar Region Tops in Reservation Counts
With the May holidays fast approaching, Russians are eagerly planning their domestic escapades, and Krasnodar Krai is leading the charge! Domestic tourism has soared by an impressive 42% compared to last year, with over a fifth of bookings pouring into the region. The railway stations, like Novorossiysk, are buzzing with excitement as tourists from across the nation flock to the coast.
Long queues stretch at ticket counters as travelers scramble for seats. "You need to book well in advance, at least 1.5 months ahead," advises a weary commuter. It's a frenzy, with only a handful of tickets left for popular routes to Krasnodar Krai. Vyacheslav Kulakov, a frequent traveler, lamented, "When I booked, there were only five tickets left."
Novorossiysk, a coastal city in Krasnodar Krai, is gearing up for a 15% surge in visitors this May. Out of the approximately 50,000 tourists expected, around 120 accommodation facilities and 23 tourist attractions will cater to their needs. "The city is being prepared for the guests, with lawns being trimmed and infrastructure being put in order," reported Yana Annenkova of "Kuban 24" TV channel.
Hoteliers in Kuban are rallying to accommodate the surge of travelers. Veronica Strizhak, General Director of the "Novorossiysk" hotel, shared, "Most of our guests are from Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, and Moscow. On May 9th, all rooms are booked, as people are coming for the parade."
Gelendzhik is another enchanting destination that's booking up fast. Hotels and guesthouses are more than half full for the May holidays. Alexander Mkrtchyan, Vice-President of the "Alliance of Tourist Agencies of Russia" Association, reckons the shoreline and sunshine are the winning factors, saying, "St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, and Kazan are serious competitors, but they lack the main thing - the sea."
Sochi remains the only open airport in Kuban, with plans to serve over 460,000 passengers between April 28 and May 11. The busiest days will be May 4 and 11, attracting daily footfall of over 37,000 people. Red Polyana resorts are also high on travelers' lists, promising a 70% hotel and apartment occupancy rate.
It's essential to book your train travel to Krasnodar Krai at least 1-2 months in advance to secure your seat. Keep in mind that renewed focus on freight routes might affect passenger services, though no conflicts with the Moscow-Novorossiysk route have been reported yet. Official Russian Railways websites or authorized agents are your best bet for up-to-date seat availability.
When it comes to security checks, rest assured that Sochi, among others, maintains strict security measures, including X-ray screening and metal detectors. Travelers are advised to consult their governments' latest advisories before finalizing their plans. Happy holidays, and see you at the shore!
