Individual journeys an immense 26,000 kilometers from Romania to Yakutsk and back in a fleeting 53 days.

In a death-defying journey, Romanian adventurer Cosmin Crașciun embarked on an epic 26,000-kilometer road trip from his hometown of Buzău in southern Romania, all the way to the frigid heart of Siberia – Yakutsk, the world's coldest city. This badass adventure, spanning a grueling 53 days, was no small feat for the seasoned driver.

Crașciun set off on his grand expedition in January 2025, first traversing Turkey, the Caucasus Mountains, and the vast expanse of Kazakhstan before reaching his initial objective, the magnificent Lake Baikal. Speaking to Agerpres, Crașciun revealed, "I completed the journey from Buzău to Lake Baikal in 23 days, covering approximately 9,500 kilometers. Baikal was my primary goal when I decided to take on this exhilarating challenge," he shared.

With Lake Baikal behind him, Crașciun met up with a fellow Romanian living in Ulan-Ude, Marius. The duo conquered another 3,000 kilometers in just four days.

Traveling alone, Crașciun braved dozens of harsh terrains and border checkpoints, all the while pushing his rugged Dacia Duster 3 to its limits. His ingenuity didn't extend to any special modifications for the journey. However, at one point, he daringly drove over a frozen river for 10 kilometers.

Throughout his arduous journey, Crașciun filled up his tank a whopping 75 times, burning through 2,423 liters of gasoline. He was particularly mindful of the frozen landscapes and stayed close to fuel stations to avoid getting stranded in the harsh cold.

The total cost of Crașciun's death-defying adventure amounted to a mere €4,500. Fuel alone accounted for a hefty €1,750, while accommodation expenses came to €1,050. Unforeseen expenses, such as fines and new tires, set him back an additional €1,200. However, Crașciun believes that for the sheer distance he covered and the challenging conditions faced, the total cost was quite modest.
