India's First Cheetah Safari Launches in Kuno National Park
Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh launched India's first cheetah safari on October 1, 2025, offering visitors a unique opportunity to witness free-ranging cheetahs in their restored habitats. The safari is structured to minimise human interference, with scheduled gypsy drives, regulated vehicle entry, and strict protocols.
The park, set to become India's next cheetah haven after Kuno, is home to around 16 cheetahs roaming within its landscapes. Visitors can enjoy a diverse natural experience, with over 200 species of birds, deer, antelope, and bats calling the park home.
Safari slots run in the morning and evening, with a speed limit of 20 km/h, ensuring responsible wildlife viewing. The best time to visit for cheetah sightings is from October to March. The safari costs INR 4,500 per gypsy ride (up to 6 passengers) and INR 1,200 per private light vehicle entry. Revenue generated funds habitat management, veterinary care, prey monitoring, and community outreach.
The reintroduction of cheetahs to Kuno National Park is a significant step in enhancing biodiversity in the region. The park's first cheetah safari offers visitors a unique experience while contributing to the conservation efforts. Plans are underway for the reintroduction of pumas in October 2025, further enriching the park's wildlife.
