Hotel Indigo Albufeira's Revamped Retreat: A Coastal Haven Inspired by the Algarve

The 80-room Hotel Indigo Albufeira has reopened its doors, sporting fresh allure with indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, and a striking design that reflects the Algarve's captivating natural charm. As part of the IHG family, it's now under the watchful eye of AHM - Ace Hospitality Management, an offshoot of the Mercan Group.

The refurbished property boasts an enviable blend of the old and new, preserving its original four-star essence while infusing new life into it. The design draws heavily on the Algarve's breathtaking beauty, weaving together the region's azure skies, shimmering Atlantic waters, and rustic terracotta hues, celebrating the local reefs and corals. Handcrafted macramé, shells, and undulating wave-like forms elevate the coastal atmosphere. The outdoor, exclusive guest-only pool on the sixth floor adds an oceanic touch, replete with maritime mementos.

In the leisure area, encircling 40 sun loungers and hammocks echo the region's quaint fishing traditions, yet invite guests to unwind, as do the large, starfish-shaped cushions that adorn them. A bustling 70-seat bar awaits guests daily from 11am till 10:30pm, while in-house patrons can relish 24-hour service, even amidst room service offerings that cater to both light bites and heartier meals.

Stepping inside, the wellness area unfolds a swimming pool, water circuit, and spa, where rejuvenating treatments are deeply rooted in local ingredients. Oranges plucked from the Algarve's groves find their way into essential oils, while orange blossom tea becomes the foundation of the warm welcome ritual. Sea salt gleaned from Tavira and seaweed plucked from the Atlantic Ocean are carefully integrated into the treatments.

"Honoring the connection with the community has always been a priority for this IHG brand," elucidates João Figueira, Director of Operations and Business Development at AHM. "With Hotel Indigo Albufeira's location nestled near the beach, the stay already promised a connection with the Algarve's pristine nature. Our goal was to enrich that connection across all spaces, making it more immersive and engaging for guests."

Hotel Indigo Albufeira is the Mercan Properties Group's first investment in the Algarve, with an estimated €13 million outlay set for 2024. The revamped retreat generated 29 direct jobs and is a testament to the group's steadfast belief in the Algarve's budding hospitality sector.

"The Algarve has long been recognized as one of Portugal's most tourism-rich regions, boasting immense potential to draw both domestic and international visitors," remarks Mariano Faz, CEO of AHM, a company within the Mercan Group overseeing hotel management. "These factors have only fortified our ambition to leave our mark on the Algarve, bringing our years of experience in managing hotel and restaurant concepts in the North and Alentejo regions."
