Holocaust Survivor Halina Birenbaum Returns to Düsseldorf School

Holocaust survivor Halina Birenbaum, now 90, will visit the Lore-Lorentz School in Düsseldorf on January 30th. This is her second visit, following a 15-year relationship with the school. Birenbaum will share her experiences at the Kom(m)ödchen, exclusively with students.

Birenbaum's approach, favoured by teacher Buschmann, involves recounting personal stories rather than just facts. She has done this for 15 years, including visits to schools in Berlin and Potsdam. Her 1989 book, 'Hope Dies Last', has been a constant companion on memorial trips to former camps. Birenbaum's speedy rise from ghettos to concentration camps, and her survival, is a testament to her resilience. This visit may be the last chance for students to hear a Holocaust survivor's account in person.

On January 30th, Birenbaum will share her experiences, offering students a unique perspective on the Holocaust. This event underscores the importance of preserving and passing on these personal histories.
