HMV Celebrates 10 Years of Preserving 'Home' in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

HMV, a volunteer-driven organisation, celebrates its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of preserving and promoting the concept of 'home' in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The association, founded in 2015, honours contributors and looks ahead to a future where tradition meets diversity.

HMV's journey began in Witzin near Sternberg in May 2015. It was founded by enthusiasts who saw 'home' as more than a physical space, encompassing social, cultural, and natural living spaces that connect people. The organisation's roots lie in traditions, language, songs, crafts, customs, and festivals, but it also embraces new influences brought by immigration.

Volunteers, driven by passion and knowledge, have been the backbone of HMV. They contribute their time to preserve traditions, create encounters, and foster social cohesion. The organisation's concept of home is 'never finished', growing with and through its members, as highlighted by Martin Buchsteiner, the chairman.

On September 27, 2025, HMV celebrated its 10th anniversary at the City Cultural House of Ribnitz-Damgarten by the Baltic Sea. The event began with an expert forum on intangible cultural heritage and a performance by the Mecklenburg-Pomeranian Folklore Ensemble 'Richard Wossidlo' Ribnitz-Damgarten 1962. A special honorary prize was awarded to the seven founding members for their dedication and efforts in establishing the association.

HMV looks forward to continuing its mission under the motto 'Highmaat', shaping home as open, diverse, and alive. It aims to bridge the gap between tradition and the present, preserving the past while embracing the future. The organisation remains committed to preserving and promoting the concept of home in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
