Prince William, 43, has set his sights on the Amazon rainforest, announcing his first-ever trip to Brazil during a climate event held in London. The British heir apparent will be jetting off to Rio de Janeiro this autumn to present the Earthshot Prize, an annual award aimed at solving the planet's most pressing environmental issues.

Speaking in front of climatologists, philanthropists, and business leaders, the prince expressed his excitement about the trip. The ceremony for the Earthshot Prize will take place at the Museu do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro this year.

During the same event, William met with the Earthshot Prize finalists, exchanging insights and ideas with these environmental innovators. Michael Bloomberg, 83, the business tycoon and former New York City mayor, was among the attendees.

The Earthshot Prize, launched by Prince William in 2020, is King Charles III's (76) favorite pet project. Each year, five winners receive £1 million (approx. €1.2 million) to support their climate initiatives. This year, the prince has lined up some high-profile ambassadors for his environmental prize, including Cate Blanchett, Heidi Klum, Cafu, and David Beckham.

The choice of Brazil as the host country carries significant significance. The ceremony will be held in late October, just before the UN climate summit COP30, also taking place in Brazil. By choosing Brazil, the organizers have made history, marking the first time a South American city is host to this prestigious event, following London, Boston, Singapore, and Cape Town.

The question on everyone's lips is whether Princess Kate will join Prince William on his journey to Brazil. Despite the media buzz, royal sources remain tight-lipped about her attendance. Kate Middleton, 43, has been rebuilding her strength after undergoing chemotherapy last year. She's been careful about resuming foreign travel and royal duties, focusing on UK engagements instead. Her recent absences from high-profile events such as the 2023 Earthshot ceremony and Royal Ascot signal her gradual return to public life, all while prioritizing her recovery.

The European Union, aligned with Prince William's campaign, is also committed to the fight against climate change at the upcoming COP30, as the ceremony for the Earthshot Prize, aimed at solving pressing environmental issues, will precede the summit in Brazil. Prince William's decision to attend the event indicates an intersection of science, environmental-science, and lifestyle, as his drive to address climate change can influence travel choices. It remains to be seen if Princess Kate, after her recovery from chemotherapy, will join him in Brazil, as her presence at high-profile events signals a gradual return to public life.
