Heavy traffic congestion reported for A1 and A7 roads during the holiday season
During the recent holiday weekend, traffic was heavily congested on the A7 and A1 motorways in Lower Saxony's Harburg district. The increased return travel volume, as many people headed home from vacation destinations, combined with ongoing roadworks and infrastructure maintenance, resulted in lane closures and reduced traffic flow.
The police reported a significantly increased volume of traffic on the A1 and A7, with minor rear-end collisions and a burning car on the A7 at the Bokel exit contributing to the congestion. These incidents led to lane closures on both the A7 and A1, further exacerbating the already heavy traffic.
The holiday weekend in Lower Saxony resulted in increased return traffic, which led to heavy traffic on the A7 and A1 motorways. Uelzen also experienced heavy traffic due to the holiday return. Notably, the congestion on the A7 and A1 motorways was particularly noticeable in the Harburg district.
Despite almost continuous free flow on the A7 and A1 in Hamburg, except for a five-kilometer traffic jam on the A1 between Billstedt and the Norderelb bridge due to ongoing bridge construction work and associated lane closures, the combination of holiday travel peaks and construction-related bottlenecks led to significant delays on these major highways.
Additionally, there is currently slow-moving traffic on the A7 between Stellingen and the Elbtunnel due to construction work for the A7 lid.
