Revealed at The Airport Show in Dubai, this robust system is designed to streamline every phase of the passenger journey—from check-in to boarding. The pièce de résistance? A "smart corridor" that will whisk travelers through immigration in a blink of an eye. In contrast, the current smart gates at Dubai International Airport (DXB), it would take 10 passengers the same time to clear DXB's system as it takes one person to zoom through DWC's corridor!
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the General Directorate of Identity and Foreign Affairs, excitedly shared the scoop. He underscored how AI would manage passport verification autonomously, eliminating the need for manual checks and stamps.
However, Dubai Airports vows to retain human touchpoints, prioritizing special counters for kids and catering to the needs of elders and mothers. As Al Marri said, "We're not losing the warm, personal aspects of airport travel."
The innovation doesn't stop at the terminal. An intelligent traffic management system will keep an eye on vehicles en route to the airport, helping airlines predict paying passengers' arrival. Once travelers reach DWC, the experience becomes entirely hands-off.
Upon arrival, travelers will be greeted by curbside concierge robots, while self-bag drop robots handle checked luggage right from their vehicles. By using an app to book flights, passengers can tag their bags automatically, manage flight details, shop duty-free, and even immerse themselves in a virtual airport metaverse before leaving home!

In the terminal, digital experiences will engage travelers, with autonomous delivery bots serving food, beverages, and duty-free purchases. Lounges will boast shopping, dining, and rest areas with door-to-seat delivery services. Child-friendly zones, mixed-use digital spaces, and biometric-enabled baggage claim kiosks will further elevate the futuristic vibe.
Baggage claim itself will leapfrog traditional conveyor belts. Instead, passengers can opt between biometric kiosks or home delivery via autonomous vehicles. Plus, those flying through DWC may touch down via metro or bonded eVTOL aircraft—urban air taxis designed to slash congestion and offer rapid access to the airport.
According to Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, DWC will be constructed around eight smaller terminals, each delivering a more personalized, efficient travel experience. Underground trains will link terminals, while autonomous guided vehicles with immersive digital glass will transport passengers within the airport.
