From Piedmont's start in Sanremo to Albenga's finish in Liguria: The trail of the prized black truffle

In a delightful culinary adventure that spanned a year, the black truffle took centre stage in a series of events across Liguria and Piedmont. The journey began in Sanremo and concluded in Albenga, with various stops along the way showcasing the region's finest gastronomic offerings.

The Gourmet Stage in Ceriale and the Itinerant Black Dinners in several towns, including Alassio, Villanova d'Albenga, Spotorno, Laigueglia, Diano Marina, and Albenga, were the highlights of this grand event. The black truffle was the undeniable star, paired with local delicacies such as Spezzino oysters and the renowned Bra sausage from Piedmont.

The project was meticulously directed by the Langhe Monferrato Roero Tourism Board, under the leadership of Bruno Bertero. The Piedmont Region lent its support to the initiative, with institutional guests from both regions in attendance. Notable among them was the Piedmont regional assessor for truffle cultivation, Marco Gallo.

In Piedmont, the sausage of Bra played a significant role, acting as a co-ambassador in multiple courses. The Alimentary Concerts, which will resume in October, are a testament to the success of this collaboration. The first Alimentary Concert took place at Villa Zirio in Sanremo, while show cooking was demonstrated at Albenga in Tavola, courtesy of the Alassio Hotel Institute.

The Ligure interpretation of the project was spearheaded by Renata Cantamessa, affectionately known as the Fairy Zucchina. Literature was not left out of the black truffle dialogues, as evidenced at Alassio Aperilibro, where renowned authors such as Paolo Milone and Einaudi participated.

The black truffle event transcended traditional pairing with cuisine and became an identity symbol, a gateway to Piedmont, and a key to thematic and experiential tourism. The grand finale was held at the Hostaria del Viale in Albenga, signed by chef Federico Scardina.

The journey concluded with a promise of continuation. The founder-director of the Protection Consortium, Luigi Barbero, signed off the event, promising a tribute to the sausage and black truffle duo at the BRA'S Festival 2026. The Alimentary Concerts are also planned to be resumed in 2026, ensuring that the black truffle journey continues to enchant food lovers across Liguria and Piedmont.

The Italian Oyster Fest in La Spezia was another event that added to the richness of this culinary odyssey. With such a diverse and delectable lineup of events, the black truffle journey through Liguria and Piedmont has left a lasting impression on the Italian gastronomic scene.
