News Article: Museums Across Baden-Württemberg Embrace Global and Local Themes for Upcoming Events

Museums across Baden-Württemberg are gearing up for a series of exciting events, with a focus on both global and local themes.

The highlight of the upcoming events is the Storytelling Festival in Müllheim, themed "Once Around the Whole World." This festival, scheduled for May 18, will see storytellers sharing "fantastic stories from distant lands," with the theme "Act locally, think globally" guiding their approach. The final event of the festival will take place on Museum Day.

In Müllheim, the Markgräfler Museum is hosting a three-day event from May 16 to 18, including the first Storytelling Festival. Meanwhile, the Museum beim Markt in Karlsruhe is focusing on "mad" chairs, while the Rosgarten Museum in Constance features "Textiles in Archaeology."

The Humpis-Quartier Museum in Ravensburg offers a tour titled "Spun, Woven, and Embroidered."

Elsewhere in the region, the theme for this year's events is "Baden-Württemberg Spins." This theme is particularly evident in the events organised in the Stuttgart region.

Internationally, the theme for International Museum Day 2023, organised by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), is yet to be announced. However, in 2021, the theme was "The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine," which saw museums worldwide, including those in Baden-Württemberg, organising events reflecting resilience, new approaches to visitor engagement, digital innovations, or outdoor, decentralized formats due to pandemic restrictions.

In addition to these events, the Museums Association of Baden-Württemberg and the State Office for Museums in Baden-Württemberg are working together to generate more "radiance" and promote networking among museums. They are introducing a new concept and "suitable new communication and advertising measures."

The events are open to museum enthusiasts for free visits, and interested parties can find out what's on offer in the respective museums on Instagram.

It's worth noting that the jointly organized portal led by the German Museums Association had to be discontinued due to lack of funds in 2024.
