Flights disrupted at Nizhny Novgorod airport, affecting four departures

On July 27, 2025, Chkalov Airport in Nizhny Novgorod experienced flight disruptions due to periodic external interference and security-related operational restrictions. This interference is part of a broader crisis affecting multiple Russian airports since early July, triggered by drone attacks and external interference.

The disruptions at Chkalov Airport resulted in four flights being delayed and the cancellation of 26 flights around that period. One of the delayed flights, Flight FV-6644 to Sochi, was rescheduled to depart at 15:20 instead of the original 14:40. Other affected flights include Flight WZ-2030 bound for Yekaterinburg, now scheduled to depart at 15:30 instead of 07:25, Flight WZ-2344 to Samara, delayed and rescheduled to depart at 18:55, and Flight ZF-843 to Antalya, delayed and rescheduled to depart at 18:20.

The impact of these disruptions includes flight cancellations and delays, passenger inconvenience such as forced ticket refunds and hotel accommodations, and significant economic losses for airlines, potentially reaching tens of billions of rubles nationwide per day.

To normalize the flight schedule, airport and airline staff are making concerted efforts, and authorities have taken measures such as temporarily suspending or restricting flights for security reasons. Passengers are also being accommodated in hotels, and delays and cancellations are being managed systematically. The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) continues to monitor and adjust airport operations to mitigate further disruptions.

In response to the increased demand for continuous operation, the number of shifts has been increased at Chkalov Airport in Nizhny Novgorod. The airport remains committed to ensuring that flights resume as smoothly and efficiently as possible under the current circumstances.
