Flight passengers who arrive late are granted the option of utilizing a return ticket.
In the realm of Russian travel, several notable changes and proposed regulations have been announced over the past few years.
Starting from September 1st, 2021, a significant shift occurred in the aviation sector. Passengers of Russian airlines can now use their return ticket if they miss their flight without incurring additional fees. This change was implemented across all airlines, offering flexibility to travellers.
Meanwhile, Russian airline Aeroflot introduced new rules on September 1, 2023. Passengers who miss their flight can still use their return ticket, but only covering the airline's actual costs, without incurring additional delay fees.
In the world of rail travel, biometrics were introduced for purchasing and boarding tickets for long-distance trains in Russia, effective from September 1st, 2021. This move is aimed at streamlining the ticketing process and enhancing security.
One of the most notable proposed regulations came from State Duma deputy, Mikhail Matveev, on May 24th, 2021. He suggested a complete ban on non-refundable airline tickets, with the intention of addressing the issue of ticket availability for citizens. According to Matveev, abolishing non-refundable fares would ensure an adequate number of tickets for citizens.
However, it is important to note that the proposed ban on non-refundable airline tickets, if implemented, would not affect the existing rule allowing passengers to use their return ticket without additional fees until September 1, 2031. Moreover, the impact on airline companies' revenues, if the ban is implemented, is speculated to be positive due to the potential for reselling seats.
Mikhail Matveev also suggested that airlines could resell the same seat if non-refundable tickets were banned, increasing company revenues. However, as of now, the proposed ban has not yet been implemented.
In a related incident, a Russian woman filed a lawsuit against "Pobeda" earlier due to not receiving a hot meal due to a flight delay. This incident highlights the importance of passenger rights and the need for clear and fair policies in the travel industry.
It is essential to keep an eye on these developments as they unfold, as they could significantly impact the travel experiences of millions of Russians.
