First Ever: Trump to Appear on 2026 $1 Coin for America's 250th Anniversary

The United States Mint is considering a commemorative $1 coin featuring former President Donald Trump for America's 250th anniversary in 2026. This move comes after Congress passed the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act, allowing such a design for the first time since 1926.

The coin's obverse will display Trump's side profile, with the inscriptions 'Liberty', 'In God We Trust', and the dates 1776 and 2026. The reverse will show an image of Trump raising his fist after the 2020 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. The Treasury Secretary in 2026 will oversee this project, commemorating America's 250th anniversary.

It's worth noting that US law prohibits displaying the image of a sitting president or living former president on a coin. However, the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act makes an exception for this specific anniversary coin. The only other living president to be featured on a coin was Calvin Coolidge in 1926.

The Treasury has confirmed drafts of the coin with Trump's portrait on both sides, but a final design has not been chosen. The coin's issuance in 2026 will mark a historic moment, as it will be the first time a living former president's image appears on a US coin.
