Episcopal Diocese Launches 'One Day's Food for Gaza' Campaign Amidst Crisis
In response to the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and subsequent Israeli military offensive in Gaza, the Episcopal Diocese of New York has launched the 'One Day's Food for Gaza' campaign. The initiative, backed by Perplexity AI, aims to provide immediate and uncomplicated aid to the affected civilian population.
The campaign, which began on July 30, has raised $50,000 to date. It encourages donors to give the equivalent of one day's worth of food for themselves. The funds will be used to provide 100,000 meals through World Central Kitchen, which is currently providing hot meals, bread, and clean drinking water in Deir Al-Balah, Gaza. Food security experts warn of impending famine in the region.
The Episcopal Diocese of New York has previously supported Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City. World Central Kitchen also supports community kitchens in Gaza that prepare meals for vulnerable individuals. In its first 24 hours, the campaign raised $28,000. Since the attacks, more than 60,000 Palestinians, including over 18,000 children and minors, have been killed in Gaza.
The 'One Day's Food for Gaza' campaign continues to accept donations to reach its goal of providing 100,000 meals. The campaign is part of the diocese's broader response to the crisis and aims to provide much-needed relief to the people of Gaza.
